Compare before you apply
Fast does not have to mean the first offer
When the oven breaks or a big order lands, the temptation is to take the first loan that says yes. Speed matters, but the quickest lenders are often the most expensive, and some use daily repayments or personal guarantees that are easy to agree to in a hurry. One enquiry, checked against many lenders at once, gets you speed and a comparison in the same step.
- 1
Tell us once
Two minutes on the form: how much, what it is for and a few details about the business.
- 2
The panel is checked
Halo Corporate Finance matches your enquiry against the 130+ lenders on its panel.
- 3
You choose
Halo talks you through the options that fit. You decide whether to apply. There is no obligation.
What to compare
- The total cost of borrowing quickly. Faster lenders often charge more. Over a short term the difference may be small; over a year it can be significant.
- The term against the need. A three-month problem does not need a three-year loan. Match the length to how soon the money comes back.
- Early repayment terms, in case the customer pays or the insurance claim settles sooner than expected.
- Daily or weekly repayments, which some short-term lenders use. Check they fit how money actually comes into your account.
- Personal guarantees, which many unsecured short-term lenders ask directors to sign. Read what you are agreeing to, however urgent the need.
From enquiry to funds
Five stages, and where time is lost
Every business loan goes through the same steps. The fast ones are not skipping any; they just have nothing holding them up.
- 1
Enquiry
Tell us the amount, what it is for and how quickly you need it. A few minutes.
- 2
Matching
Halo checks your details against the lenders on its panel most likely to fund your business, and how quickly each can move.
- 3
Documents
Usually recent bank statements, often shared securely through open banking, plus accounts or management figures for larger amounts.
- 4
Decision
The lender assesses your application and offers terms. This is where missing paperwork causes most delays.
- 5
Funds
Once you accept and sign, the lender pays the money into your business account.
Speed
What makes funding faster, and what slows it down
Most delays come from the business side, not the lender. A few minutes getting these right saves days.
Faster
- Up-to-date accounts and bank statements ready to send
- Open banking connected, so the lender reads your transactions directly
- A limited company with a clear credit record
- A modest amount relative to your turnover
- No security needed
Slower
- Accounts that are overdue or still with the accountant
- Recent arrears with HMRC or other lenders
- Large amounts, or loans secured on property
- Complex group structures or several directors to verify
- Asking several lenders separately at the same time

Open banking and credit searches
Why lenders can decide faster than they used to
Instead of waiting for PDFs of bank statements, many lenders now read your transactions directly, with your permission, through open banking. And a first check can often be a soft search that does not mark your credit file.

Think twice
When a quick loan is not the answer
Fast money is right for a temporary, one-off gap. For these three situations, there is usually a better route.
A tax bill
HMRC may agree a Time to Pay arrangement for a tax debt you cannot pay in full. It may cost less than a loan. See VAT and tax bill loans for both options side by side.
A recurring gap
If the same shortfall comes back every month because customers pay slowly, a short-term loan only moves the problem. Invoice finance is built for that.
Losses that are not temporary
If the business is losing money, borrowing fast can make the hole deeper. Speak to your accountant or a free business debt adviser first.
Have these ready
Your quick-funding checklist
- The amount, and exactly what it is for
- When the money needs to arrive, and when it will come back
- Three to six months of business bank statements, or open banking access
- Your latest filed accounts, plus management figures if they are old
- Details of any existing loans, cash advances or overdrafts
- Photo ID and home address history for each director
Stay safe
Urgency is what scammers rely on
Genuine lenders do not ask for a fee before paying out a loan, and they do not pressure you to decide on a call. Check any firm on the FCA register before you share details. Halo Corporate Finance is authorised by the FCA, number 726655.
Questions
Quick loan questions
Planning ahead rather than in a hurry? See small business loans.
Compare quick loansHow quickly can I get a business loan?
It depends on the lender, the amount and how ready your paperwork is. Some lenders on the panel can make decisions on straightforward unsecured applications within days. Larger or secured loans take longer. We cannot promise a timescale, but having bank statements and accounts ready is the biggest thing you can do to speed it up.
What is a short-term business loan?
A loan repaid over a short period, often a few months up to a year or two. It is used to cover a temporary gap, such as waiting for a large customer payment, rather than to fund long-term investment.
Will an enquiry affect my credit score?
A soft search, which is only visible to you and the credit reference agency, does not affect your score. A full application normally leaves a hard search that other lenders can see. Applying to many lenders one by one leaves several hard searches, which is one reason to use a single enquiry.
What is open banking and is it safe?
Open banking lets you give a lender secure, read-only access to your business bank transactions, instead of downloading and emailing statements. You choose what to share and for how long, and it is regulated. It often speeds up a decision.
Do quick business loans cost more?
Often, yes. Lenders that decide quickly with less paperwork usually price for that risk. Over a short term the extra cost may be worth it; compare the total repayable, not the speed alone.
Can I get a quick loan with bad credit?
Some lenders on the panel consider businesses with a weaker credit history, looking more at recent bank transactions. Expect higher costs and lower amounts, and be wary of anyone promising approval regardless of credit.
Do I need security for a quick business loan?
Most quick loans are unsecured, which is part of why they can be arranged faster. Directors are usually asked for a personal guarantee instead.
Can I repay a short-term loan early?
Many lenders allow it. Some reduce the interest when you do; others charge the full cost or an early settlement fee. Ask before you sign if you think the money may come back sooner.
How do I spot a loan scam?
Be wary of anyone who cold-calls with a loan offer, asks for a fee before any money is paid out, or pressures you to decide on the spot. Check any firm on the FCA register before sharing details or paying anything.
